Life is too short for
- watching television
- reading anything much, apart from history, written after the death of Evelyn Waugh or John Betjeman
- conversing with arrogant fools
- modern 'culture', whatever that may be
- Picasso, Ted Hughes, and a thousand other worthless charlatans and their pseudo-intellectual promoters
- German philosophy, theology, or what-not
- the opinions of tinpot scribblers in the editorial columns of newspapers
- most modern church 'music'
- witless, banal, goodthinkful, inane, anodyne homilies
- reading this.

Nice list - but I have to object to one point. Tim Powers is a darn fine author - Catholic too - and I've yet to be disappointed by any of his books.
Thanks! Tim Powers is clearly someone I should be reading, and I will take your advice and read whatever I can find here in Poland.
I did write "Reading anything much", because Piers Paul Reid is another good catholic novelist.
My post was written in an outburst of rage at the news about ++Muller.
Modern culture is an oxymoron
Absolutely agree. Hope you are having a good summer.
