Dawkins and The Stricken World of Faith

So the dreary Dawkins circus grinds interminably on and on, and the Catholic blogosphere (or parts of it) crouches, sick with fear, quivering with vigilance, like an small army unit behind enemy lines, waiting for anihilation.

And not only in the Catholic world is there terror and trepidation. Worlwide, Protestants are apostosising; Muslims in their millions are slumped, despairing ,in front of their televisions, consoling themselves with whisky and bacon butties; Buddhists in their billions are melting down their Buddhas and buying The Great Man's books; Native Americans are becoming freethinkers; the Great Thumb is no more; shamans form long queues at the local Job-Centre. The Great Mind has weighed religion in the balance and found it wanting.

The Pope, so it is rumoured, has bought a retirement home in Florida.

'Thou hast conquered' the Pale Gallilean, O sun-tanned professor, 'and the World has grown cold at thy breath'. (Swinburne)

We have meltdown. Have I got that right? I think not. His books dealing with religion, on the contrary, have all the effect of a fart in a scent factory.

An amateur philosopher/theologian, riding a tinpot and ramshackle hobbyhorse, has struck fear into the hearts of etc. etc.?

Indeed he has, but God knows how.
