Dry Times Ahead!

Just back from Mass, where the Priest read the Bishop's Pastoral Letter, in which all Polish Catholics are enjoined to abstain from alcohol during August.

It's even harder here in Advent and Lent, when we are expected to give up alcohol, music, and dancing.

My neighbours, though, claim that beer is not alcohol, only food, that wine is a tonic, and that vodka is medicine (but not in August).

Mmmm... sounds a bit Ramadan-ish to me :)

Yes, but I wish we Catholics would take our fasting and abstinence as seriously as the Muslims take Ramadan.

I think we might be a lot crazier (good!) and a lot holier (most important).

More like St Francis of Asissi, perhaps.
